Differing opinions

It seems the results of the game jam are out and I'm quite low, which is normal for my first "complete" game. But I'm not agreeing at all with all the feedback I received. Let me copy the extensive analysis, sorry for the block of text.

This used none of the themes in practice or mechanics

I can excuse them, they had almost 2500 games to judge, but it seems that they stayed on the most basic conceptions of alchemy and shadows.

What can we learn from it?

People have different opinions on what things mean, so make your message clear if you want to be understood.

For example, if I had had time to implement one of my ideas, in which shadows brought the dark thoughts, the shadows part would have been better understood. For the alchemy part which consisted on the betterment of the self, that depends on the individual knowledge of all the meanings of alchemy and its related disciplines by the judge, so that would have been a though sell until I could implement game design via mixing concepts.

We can also learn when to listen to others, and when to ignore them.

If this was a jam in where I wanted to win the official jam, instead of just being able to finish it, this kind of feedback is invaluable, as it would be if this was a job.

As my main client for this was myself, and I see where they got lost I can accept their decisions more easily.

The last thing I will convey is that you can learn acceptance through understanding the other.

I'm a bit pissed by the meager feedback and what I perceive as a lack of care when judging.

On the other hand they had a lot to judge, and most people who took part on this jam could have done an equivalent game to mine in an afternoon. I probably could now too.

So even though it took long enough for me it could have been perceived as low effort by them, and as the themes are not screaming at your face they could have thought it had nothing to do with the jam.

I will accept the judgement while disagreeing with it. I'll keep going on and improving, and you should too.

Have a great day.
